How To Clean Nike React Element 87

The Nike React Element 87 is a futuristic sneaker that had a lot of hype surrounding them. The shoe takes inspiration from the Nike Internationalist, a vintage running shoe from the ‘80s. The shoes translucent look can be styled with many different outfits and the comfort provided means it should get some good wear. The sneaker features a translucent mesh on the upper as well as leather and suede around the midfoot.

We got our hands on a pair of Nike React Element 87 Dark Grey Photo Blue colorway and took them into the LAB to see how best to clean and care for them.

Now that you’ve worn in your kicks, it’s time to get them clean. Start by using our Premium Brush and brushing the shoe to rid of any excess dirt. You’ll find that a lot of dirt should come off and will also prevent stains from happening. Next remove the laces from the shoe and spray a generous amount of Sneaker Cleaner whilst cupped in your hands. Rub them together so that the Sneaker Cleaner saturates the laces and then place into a container of water and let sit until you are finished with the deep clean of your sneakers.

It is important to take note of the materials of the sneaker before getting stuck into cleaning. The majority is a transparent mesh but there are areas where some caution should be applied, specifically the suede around the midfoot.

Spray Sneaker Cleaner around the sneaker – make sure not to oversaturate the suede sections. Let this sit for about 3 minutes. We suggest starting by the suede area around the midfoot. Be sure to apply extra caution on this area – the material is thin and can potentially get oversaturated with liquid which would affect the suede. Dip your brush into a container of water – shaking the excess off. You won’t need a lot of water for this section. Scrub around the suede in a circular motion. Alternatively, you can use our Sneaker Wipes here, but we’ll get into that later.

Then dip your brush into a container of water, giving a shake to get rid of any excess water and start scrubbing the transparent mesh section. Don’t worry about harming the material here, our Premium Brush is soft enough to not damage the material but hard enough to get rid of any dirt.

You can then go down to the midsoles and the soles to get them sparkling clean. Repeat the same process as you did with the uppers. You can then turn to your microfiber towel to dab and twist any excess moisture of the shoe to dry.

Let’s not forget about those laces! They’ve been soaking up all of that Sneaker Cleaner solution and are ready to get clean. Take the laces out of water and cleaner solution and run them through a microfiber towel to get rid of any moisture.

Re-lace your sneakers and then let the sneaker dry overnight and it will be ready to wear.

Another quick and easy way to clean the Reacts would be to use Sneaker Wipes. The material will be perfect for the Sneaker Wipes as the wipes will loosen the dirt easily on the mesh and it will be gentle enough to clean the suede section. Take them along with you wherever you go and keep your kicks looking clean.

Although this sneaker is extremely breathable, it’s not a bad idea to be extra cautious and still apply Odor Protector. This will fight off unwanted bacteria that causes bad odors.
